XT600E stator
Hey guys!
I was trying to measure the ohms on the stator but It only registers ohms on between one pair. On that pair (200ohms scale) I get from 0.6 and 0.7ohms (60~70 ohms respectively) the other white wire doesn't show any ohms between any of the other pair.. Is my stator toast? =| Vando beer |
maybe a broken wire only?
|
How should I check that?
You can't imagine how much I'm soo pissed off right now!! RRRRrrRrRRrRR:censored: |
first question: why r u testing stator? no spark?
then if answer is yes, to test if it's a wire problem, you should take the left cover off, and test evry single wire for continuity between inside and outside |
No nothing actually.. Tried e-start... didn't work.......Tried kickstarting, didn't work...
Nor the e-start motor / starter relay make any sound click nor nothing.. My holds slightly over 12v it should at least click the starter relay... I've taken the wiring loom of the bike and will be testing it again.. might've skipped a connection or something.. Still, the resistances on the stator are really off...tIn two whites I get 2.6k ohms and the other zero! Only have continuity between those two white wires coming from the stator. Also tested the continuity from each of the white wires to frame ground and only those two that have 2.6K Ohms resistance have continuity.. Also, It's my second regulator/rectifier since last year. And now after leaving the bike standing in the garage for about 3months it just won't start as to previously to this the battery was running flat whenever I turned on the lights, when turning off the lights the battery would charge... Oh, and my father told me today the bike had a similar problem about 15years ago.. the stator went bad and was replaced.... Vando :censored: |
If you are showing 12.0 V then the battery is flat - it should be at least 12.8 V. Check it with the e-start button pressed. If it goes to less than 7 V the battery is the problem regarding it not starting. If it stays at 12 V then suspect a connection or relay problem. It does sound like it isn't charging right because 1 phase from the stator is open circuit.

If nothing....NOTHING, really happens, check fuses and killswitch and stuff like that. Sorry if its obvios, but relay/starter motor should do something, click, try to start ect....As I recall, the stator should have nothing to do with the start curcuit. ( Ignition switch, killswitch, battery, relay starter motor.....and the sidestand/neutral/clutch-switches to some degree aswell I guess.
How about a nice new wiring harness for that bike, you seem like youre in over youre head, too many mods ect....(ment in the best way possible) :D Also, read part 7 and 8 in the factory workshop manual, theres specs and troubleshooting tips for electricity. Good luck. |

i.e. go back to whatever has changed most recently and see what happened + assume nothing = check, and check again. |
Bandit: Battery is basically dead.. My fault! I now know it was due to the stator as I've just checked the regulator/rectifier on the bike and it's good.
Last Summer until November I used the bike and it would only charger the battery with the lights turned off . With the E-start sometimes the bike wouldn't start and I had to use the kickstart..... I even bought a MOTOBATT Little Boy battery charger/maintainer but It won't salvage this one... Problem was there Before I even made the sidestand switch bypass. I've been studying on 3phase stators and testing mine and it needs to be re-wounding one of the phases. Has anyone ever had their stator serviced before and where could I get this done in Europe? Anyway, good thing to know now is that I have at least 3 good regulator/rectifiers (can't find where I placed the first one I bought to replace the one that came on the bike). I'm open for offers on at least one of them.................... Anyone have a spare stator for the XT600E for sale? And Jens.. FYI, No, I'm not over my head. you should know better already.. |
Do it yourself???
Would you try doing it yourself? I barely understand how it all works but might be worth a try if you run out of options.

Yes I'm gonna try it!
But only after I get a new one... I remember dropping my stator once on a concrete floor :\ I bet it snapped some insulation... First thing I'll try is to check where it chipped and if I can put some HT epoxy glue over it to see if I can salvage the situation.... Anyway, here are the links for two different stators for the XT600E. Lichtmaschine XT 600 E XT600 3TB/DJ02 90-03 Neu Stator | eBay OD 103mm, ID 42mm eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices OD 115mm, ID 54mm They both have different measures so I don't really know which one will fit my bike and the seller hasn't responded back yet.. Which one fits the 1990 XT600E? |
Anyone??????
How about the 1995/2003 4PT stator, is it the same as the 1990/1994 stator?? |
Stator is burnt, bought new one.
103 OD and 42 ID! But will try to rewind my now old one for fun and see what comes out of it... Vando |
Note that the stator you linked is "ohne impulsgeber" i.e. without pickup, so you will need to remove pickup from your own stator and connect it in the proper way to the new one.
