XT600Z Tenere Engine Performance
 

Anyone know of any differences between the 34L (1983 XT600Z European Spec) engine and the 43F (1986 XT600 USA Spec). I have a 1986 that I thought was running great until I recently picked up the older Tenere. The Tenere seems to pull stronger and rev up much quicker. Is there a difference in the ignition? Carbs are clean on both. Maybe the Tenere has a piston but that doesn't seem like it would make the engine rev quicker. Any ideas? Just curious. Thanks.

The 43F (being the XT600 spec for that year, not American or European or whatever) has exactly the same specs as the 4L: 32 kW (at crankshaft) and 49,5 Nm (at crankshaft). Also the carburettors, needles, jets are laregly identical. All the specs here (in german): www.xt600.de
Better to compare things like gearing, gearbox, exhaust etc.
The 34L / 55W Tenere feels a lot stronger than the later models, partly because the exhaust system is better, partly because they are less friendly for the environment. It also seems, indeed, that the carb with teh piston in the second stage gives a bit more as opposed to the membrane of later years. But, when I installled such a carb on my 3AJ Tenere, it did not give a lot.
