xt660r
Anyone have any positive reviews/feedback on the 660r?..
i sold the ttr and am looking for something new |
So far 51000 km. No problems, knock on wood. Minor preventive maintenance only (steering and wheel bearings). No modifications. Added hand guards, bash plate and touring windshield. Consumption 4-5l /100km. Off-road weekends, road trips and commuting. Many falls but cosmetic damage :thumbup1:, tough bike. Satisfied. Anyway more capable than me.

you dont say what year... if its the newer four valve head, at least here in italy it is regarded as a better engine than the older five valve
|
I am looking at a newer modle..price dependant. Was wondering how the bikes perform...i know its a single,i know its gonna vibe just wondering if its any more refined than the ttr.
|
from 2004 on it's four valves and fuel injected, so quite a bit more up to date and performing. but it's also more road oriented, certainly not as capable off road as a TTR.
|
Bought one,so time will tell.
09 plate with 9k and FSH and 12 months MOT. with the sale of the TTR its cost me another £800. |

Besides it has exactly as much power as is needed for travel. |
two very different animals, enjoyed every minute of hot action on a 690, but definitely not a bike i'd like to cover big distances on or ride to work everyday.
a 660 is the last development of the xt family, much more civilized than any version before, will be interesting to hear what you think about it. it's deffinetely a better a daily rider, IMHO of course. |
when i actually get the bike ill report back. its over a 400 mile round trip to collect it. Sometime this week.
plenty of relatively easy 'upgrades' and an active forum that should be supportive. |
Well.....good 7 hour round trip to fetch the bike...
First ride out and I have to say that Im impressed. The bike is so different from the ttr that I tried to convince my mate who bought the ttr to sell it and buy one! Everything is different. Engines smooth, power delivery is effortless.Brakes are phenomenal. Evolution as its very best. Service time... |
good to hear, kind of makes you think what if yamaha kept on developing it.

I've had her for a week and have put 250 miles on the clock.
I have stripped and cleaned the brakes/changed brake fluid, oil and filter and fitted DNA air filters and awaiting a power commander style kit and O2 correcter from OZ. The brakes are phenominal with plenty of feel and stopping power, still on the original pads with EBC HH pads sourced for the front and organic/softer pads for the rear. The engine produces power and torque in bucket loads and delivers it an addictive way. Open the throttle and a corresponding grin splits my face from ear to ear. The Arrow exhaust cans produce a fruity bark that's music to my ear's. All in all I'm as happy as a pig in shit! Originally my mate was buying the ttr but now wants an XT660R as well. Anyone want to buy a ttr600?? |
Always was a superb bike since it came out. Don't know anyone who has really had a problem with theirs. Bomb proof, cheap, simple and pretty good fun.
