i have an '03 xt600e and i believe it's a 3tb model. although im not 100% sure. maybe some of the more experienced xt-ers can confirm.

I've often wondered, but never bothered to look any further for some sort of answer along these lines.

For what it is worth, the TT600R 2001 (5CH) model has the Yamaha 3AJ engine. So what - I've no idea!! :rolleyes2:

mmm interesting. so my '03 is a DPBMC! never heard of that model before now

I believe that DPBMC refers to the colour: Deep Purplish Blue Metallic.

Of course, I could be wrong.

none of this helps me out here in the states. different #s maybe different models. 89 xt600 kick only no oil cooler #jya3ew i know in 90 they became heavier and cheaply made.

Later Model types.

Hi.
Of the more recent models...

3AJ: Twin lamp Tenere. '88 to about '92 (2 versions - early has short oil cooler, late has long oil cooler)

3TB: Small tank, electric start, steel wheel rims - 17" rear. (replaced the 2KF) '89 - '95. The only XT600 not to have a rev' counter.

4PT: Now here is where the confusion starts!! '96 - current. In '96 there was the first 4PT1 - rev counter re-appeared, lots of cosmetic changes & we got rid of the horrible 3TB stressed member silencer & went back to a proper rear subframe, but....it used the old 3TB engine (usual gearbox problems) with the clutch cable entering the engine on the left hand side, like a 1VJ or 3AJ. A true 4PT is from '97 onwards (4PT2/3/4 etc) and uses the new engine (much better gearbox) which has the clutch cable entering the engine on the right hand side on top of the clutch cover. You may still find 3TB engine numbers on these engines, but they are really 4PT type. You need to use the white sticker under the seat to properly identify the later XTs.

I have model codes for US XT600s so get in touch if you're not sure - bigbluecoach@hotmail.com - 0044 (0) 1205 871 945

I hope this helps.

David Lambeth.
