XTZ 660 3YF timing Marks
Hi Guys
Still having problems with the old bus. Just had the rockerbox cover off as to check cam chain condition as my adjuster had stuck and i thought maybe the chain had jumped a couple of teeth. lined up TDC by the mark on the fly wheel but couldn't find any corresponding marks on the cam sprocket. All there are are 2 dimples 180deg apart. Could anyone point me in the right direction please, as none of the manuals i've looked at are any help cheers Paul |
Hi Paul,
Yes the manual is a bit vague and my copy is badly scanned, but I can send you a copy of the page if you wish. I have just replaced my timing chain so here's what I did There are three timing marks on the gear, but one is covered by the decompression spring mechanism cover. 1. Make sure you're on TDC on the compression stroke i.e. all valves closed. 2. If you can't identify the third timing mark, a small dimple , you may have to remove the gear from the camshaft and then you'll see it. 3. You set the two timing marks laying at 180 degrees to each other parallel to the top of the block. The third should be at 90 degrees and vertical to theses two. davy |

That makes sense, I took a wild stab and set it with the dimples at 180 and the lobes down on TDC, spins ok but wont start. Had a few other issues but got no time to sort them now. Thanks for the help ride safe Paul |
