ybr 125 '13 sticking in gears

i've had a look about the internet and found no answers yet so i thought i'd ask and maybe find someone who's had the same problem or knows what it is.

newish 2013 ybr125 with only 10000 miles on it
sometimes when changing gear, i pull i the clutch, push down the gear lever, the lever moves down but not clunk and the gear does not change.
it then wont go down no matter how much i let out the clutch and try again.
eventually going the opposite way on the gears then trying again will work, after a few goes.
usually happens going down from 3rd.

i've played with the clutch cable adjustment both ways to see if that did anything, nope.

i want to check what people on here think before i open up the gearbox, as this is my only mode of transport.

gear box, worn selector prawl, or something worse?

What happens if you shift with no clutch? try release clutch cable and press lever in all gears, if it wont go into any gears then i think it must be bent shifter fork.

Is this only with one particular gear (say, 3rd) or does it happen (sporadically) over most of them? If it's one gear it may be something internal in the gearbox but if it happens over a number of them I'd start by checking the shift mechanism at the other end of the shaft the gear lever bolts to.

There are various springs and screws there that will give the vagueness you describe if they come loose / break. I don't know the YBR specifically but it's commonly found behind the clutch basket so the side cover will have to come off to have a look. At least that's quick to do.

I've got a similar problem with an old 650 twin Yamaha at the moment but it's only with 5th gear so I suspect the whole thing will have to come apart. Something for the summer though, it's just too cold now.

i'll just have to get off my arse and crack the engine open and have a look, and hopefully not break anything worse.
from what i've read so far its seeming like the gear change mechanism is busted in some way.

ok, this is for future reference for someone with the same problem searching the forum.

the problem was the thing that the selector prawl selects off, the little odd shaped gear with the selector pins attached to it, the bolt holding that in had came loose.
i snapped a bit off the clutch basket reaching it (you have to remove the clutch, going through that side) but otherwise easy fix.
