We’ve now had a bit of a chance to ride about in the suit a few times so can start reviewing the suits properly! Weh hey! First things first… they’re warm!! Very warm!! Great for those nippy days… bit hot for the warmer ones! We had a pootle about the other day in the sunny sunny weather and I neglected to take out my trousers thermal lining and suffered for it! Sweaty betty indeed! Even with the lining out though, on a day like today (we’re looking at 28 degrees Celsius) if you’re not moving you’re going to feel a tad hot… so high temperatures exceeding 30’s and 40’s I should imagine you’ll start feeling like you’re being slow roasted!

My solution to the late 20's degrees though? Plonk on a damp/wet top underneath before heading out! Has kept me cool

On the ArmaS suit Sam has a few more vents which keep him a tad cooler although two of them are covered when he wears a rucksack. For me the venting is a lot less in the RUKKA Armiina but I’ve not been too bad (saying that I tend to be alright in hotter weather so perhaps I’m a poor person to compare to!)!

The plus side is… night time and cooler weather riding we have both been very comfortable. The other evening it was a touch nippy and cold but when we headed home on the motorway we both felt very snug (I didn’t even have my thermal trouser linings in!)!

With regards to rain we’ve only really experienced the odd drizzle and light shower so we cannot really make full comments on it other than they kept us completely warm and dry. I look forward to trying them out in some proper down pours and will let you know more then!

I have to admit I am a bit gutted I do not have the extra neck collar for my suit. I do wear my neck scarf and bandana but it still gets a bit nippy where the collar falls short of the helmet! I think the suit would also benefit from a couple of extra vents like the boys one too!

Another thing to point out which has caused me to adjust the way I ride is the non slip bum! You see, we’ve gone for tall bikes (KTM 690 Enduro R 2012) and when I normally come to a stop I previously have slipped off to one side to help put my foot down and balance. This is not so easy with the non slip bum as it’s like I’m velcro’d to the seat! A strange thing to notice and a bit of a newbie thing to point out but it’s caused me to lose my balance a couple of times at the beginning!

All in all though it’s proving to be an incredibly comfortable suit!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
