Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

I shipped one-way from Melbourne, however, Dave can also ship from Sydney and Brisbane.

The bike had to be thoroughly clean, battery disconnected and only a couple of litres of fuel in the tank. No need to crate as GetRouted use their own special racks suitable for bikes under 2.3m. The bike was simply held in place with tie-downs.

I had made arrangements myself with Aussie Customs to meet me as I dropped it off in order to stamp the Carnet and record its departure.

Dave took care of the Warrant Of Fitness (WOF) and rego required for New Zealand, and also made all the necessary arrangements with NZ Customs as I was shipping the bike under a Carnet.

The bike took about 6 days to get over, but was only available to pick up when Dave arrived in NZ, which was 13 days after dropping it off.

Upon arrival at Christchurch airport, I walked my Carnet over to the local agents, which was right next to the Customs office, to get it stamped.

I picked the pick up the next morning from the handling agents, who where located near to Lyttelton, Christchurch and was able to ride it away - easy!

First of all:
Do not forget to clean your bike really good!!!!!
But if we got through, you will do as well ;-)

800,00 Aus $ Shipping = 470 Euro
390,00 NZ $ Handling in NZ = 205 Euro
75,00 NZ $ MAF = 40 Euro

All together: 715 Euro

We paid 800 Aus $ (470 Euro)to ship 2 XT 600 Tenere in 2 crates.
We got a crate from a Suzuki shop in a suburb of Melbourne for free. In town, on Elizabeth street they wanted to charge us 30-80 Aus $ (18-47 Euro) for 1 crate.
Hermes will make a crate for you as well!!!!
We took of the frontwheels and the handlebars, but if they make a crate for you, you do not have to!
We put nearly all our luggage in the box.
We crated everything at Hermes, the workers where very friendly and they helped us.
Later it got inspected by Customs very quickly.
At the NZ side we contacted Profreight (contact for Hermes in NZ) to find out when the bike was available.
We had to pay 390,94 NZ $ to their bank account.
Then we did some paperwork and paid (75 NZ $ = 40 Euro) for the MAF.
The MAF is at the airport of Christchurch.
At the Custom office at the airport as well, they stamped the carnets without having a look at the bikes! And it was for free!!
But do not forget to sign your carnet at the front page!!!!
A lot of people, included us, never did that before!!!!
The bikes were in the Hilton Hillsborough - warehouse where we met the MAF inspector who had a quick look at the bikes, maybe 5 minutes.

That is what we had to pay for the MAF:
Inspection of 2 used motorcycles and transport NZ $ 75,00 = 40 Euro

In the end we had to pay a lot in New Zealand!
So if you want to transport your bike, think also of sending it by air!!!!
Because usually, there are not so many extra costs at the airport. And it takes only 2 days!!

It took about 2 weeks to transport them from Australia to New Zealand by ship!!
Do not forget to clean your bike really good!!!!!

If you want to drive your vehicle in New Zealand, then you need a Warrant of Fitness (WOF). At a garage they will check, if your bike is in a good condition.

That cost you another 40,00 NZ $ = 21 Euro

You will get a sticker for your bike

Then you need a registration.!

We got it from the Automobilclub (AA).

The cost for 6 months are 102,50 NZ $ = 54 Euro

You will get a sticker for your bike.

If you leave the country, before the 6 months are over and stop your registration, then you can claim money back from the government

For that you have to fill out a form and need an address or a bank in New Zealand.

So if you want, you can give that money to friends, who helped you in New Zealand!!

The guys at the Automobilclub (AA) were very helpful, they also offered us a 6 months free membership, because we are members of the german Automobilclub (ADAC). Just show your membershipcard!!

Good luck!!

I paid the 315Aus$ to ship a crate of 1.3 cbm.
I got a crate from the Red Wing Honda shop in Melbourne which cost me 30 Aus$. When the bike was crated a friend transported it to Hermes where it got inspected by Customs. I left it there on Monday and the bike went on the ship on Friday.
At the NZ side i called Profreight(contact for Hermes)to find out when the bike was available. Then i did some paperwork for the MAF and made an appointment. At the Custom office at the airport(was closer) they stamped the carnet without having a look at the bike(?)
The bike was in the Tapper-warehouse where you meet the MAF inspector who has a quick look at it(5 min.).Once you paid you get it released from the warehouse.
This is what i paid to the Profreight Company:
-Administration Fee NZD 5.00
-BACC Application Fee NZD 5.00
-Delivery Order NZD 45.00
-Forestry NZD 6.50
-Port Service Charge NZD 84.50
------------
Total NZD 164.25

On top of that I paid the MAF 60 NZD:
which is 41 NZD Inspection,
and 19 NZD for theis transport(depends on how many people they come for)

That's it and you can take the bike and leave!!

Enjoy it!
