Australia Circuit
Hello
I am in the uk and considering a 3- 4 month trip around Oz. If I go 4 wheels my preference for a vehicle is a diesel and probably a recent Nissan Patrol although some good prices on Isuzu Troopers I've seen in the UK. My current concern is whether to buy here, prep and take my car or try to buy/rent over in Oz. Am thinking of going for a roof tent, any thoughts on this.
Thanks IT

Personally I would buy over there. I kitted up my LR there and then shipped it back but that was because I already had it and it was highly modified. If you haven't already bought something then I would definitely buy there. Accessories are cheaper and more readily available. Nissan Patrols, Izuzu Troopers and Landrover Discoverys are all fairly cheap and readily available. Landcruisers are popular so cost more second hand.
Personally we used Swags the whole time we were in Aus (4 years) and they work really well and are suited to the environment. Roof tents are good but expensive (still cheaper than in the UK).

Hi IT
I would buy there as they have loads of vehicles set up for the bush, and the money saved on shipping will get you a good set of wheels. We used a roof tent for six months in africa, very cool, out of the way of creepy crawlies, and takes 2 minutes to put up, revealing your bed in the same smelly state as you left it!
Happy trails
