Getting spare parts shipped -the best way?

hopefully it would never come to it and obviously we are taking all the spares we reasonably can - but if we were to need to get a spare part for our land rover while on our trip to central Asia, Russia and Mongolia this year, what's the easiest and quickest way to have it shipped? Anyone here had any experience?

Cheers all!

We used a chap called Derya in Turkey who was brilliant, spoke perfect english and stocked aftermarket (britpart) parts as well for a defender. He even sent them without payment first, very trusting!

Might be cheaper than getting them shipped from Europe, his shipping costs were very cheap for Turkey, and we had the parts within 48hrs at the Iran border.

His email address is gayeotomotiv@gayeotomotiv.com Hope this helps.

I ordered parts from the Internet for my motorbike and had them delivered post restante to a town or city a few days or weeks ahead knowing that I would be able to pick them up when I passed through. I found that post restante worked very well in asia, although in India it took me three days to get the parcel due a staff member being away.

Poste Restante works very well but be carefull if you have to list the contents. If customs work out you have new parts they will charge you import duty -100% or more and they may seize your parcel untill you pay. Better to say personal effects or something.

Had this happen in Morocco - parcel seized at cassablanca airport - 8 hours and 100GBP down we got our cylinder head after bribing 'someone' in power to tipex out a '0' on the duty form -80GBP bribe and 20GBP (10%) duty.

Know your post code

Oh and also, for 'post restante' I'd recommend that you know the exact post code otherwise you may not receive the parcel at the location you expect ;-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
