Land Rover garages - Mongolia/Uzbekistan/Kazakhstan
Does anyone know of Land Rover garages in Mongolia, Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan?
I'm trying to identify options for some servicing and check-ups during my 2014 trip. Likely vehicle servicing stops would be in Ulan Baataar and either Tashkent or Shymkent - if suitable garages can be found there.

Its always good to have a few places on your trip to pick up anything out of the ordinary and hopefully someone has some more information.
For routine servicing (oil changes etc) its worth doing them yourself if possible, or in any decent looking workshop, just watch the mechanic and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid like cross threading the sump plug etc.
The 200/300Tdi is a very forgiving engine, ensure that your timing belt is replaced before your trip, take a spare water pump, full gasket set, make sure the alternator and power steering pump are good with no leaks, if the Defender is over 10 years old id replace the radiator. Take enough oil and fuel filters to change them every 5000 kms and a few extra fuel filters. Also take a spare new timing belt. Take a Haynes and Workshop manual (on a laptop) and a good set of tools and go.......
Keep your air and fuel filters clean and do frequent oil and filter changes and the 300Tdi will be good.
Looks like a great trip!
* Just read some more on your website, Looks like a very bad experience you had with Pattisons - not good, I hope you can/have recoup your money and that the rest of your trip goes a lot smoother! Your Rover looks well set up, no problems!

Thanks Grif,
Mine is a '93 200Tdi (but advice for the 300Tdi still stands). I've already had the timing belt replaced and a new radiator fitted. Had a lot of other work done to prep the vehicle for the trip. I also have a good tool kit on board and will have a variety of spare parts and a workshop manual.
Whilst I'll be checking and topping up fluids myself along the way, I hope to be able to get the truck into a garage around the 6,000 and 12,000 mark for a full service and check-up, as well as to fix any issues that may crop up.
Hopefully someone knows of a couple of decent garages along the way that are tried and tested.

Excellent! Thanks for the link.
Only one in Mongolia and none in Kaz, Taj or Kyrg. None in Ukraine either. But there are 52 in Russia, so one or two of those could prove useful. I'll go through the list and identify those that are along my route.

Bermuda....
I was having a coffee and chat with Dave lovejoy the other week, he was talking about a vehicle that had been prepped by his team for an overland trip... I've suddenly realised it's your one!
And I now know where your old vehicle is, on the LRScene forum.
Have a good trip, and you'll be in safe hands with Dave.

Hi Jim,
Yes, that would be me! David and his team have been great in helping me to prep the Defender. What a difference it makes having a team of experts in your corner. I recommend them to anyone who needs help with overland preparation. The Off Road Preparation team's website is www.offroadpreparation.com
I'm also pleased to see that my previous Defender 'Nightmare' has been given a new lease on life, as it was destined to be parted out.
Craig

I have some co-ords for garages and parts places. The Kaz dealers are listed under russia. Nothing in UZB or TAJ. good parts place in almaty and out west. Mongolia would be only UB. Afriend struggled to find 15/40 there so take some from russia. I would personally source fluids and service it yourself. Take enough filters with you don't waste time looking around. Its a real ball ache.
GPS is in the truck with the laptop on its way ro australia so you will have to wait a bit for the 3 or 4 LR garages I have.
Drop me an email if you want as i can keep up with things easier that way on my phone.
Cheers
