Looking for Overland vehicle in SA
Anybody completing a trip and ending in South Africa?
My wife and I are looking to leave on an overland trip around April 2008 and are looking for a vehicle to take us through Africa. We would prefer to buy it outright and do a round trip, but if you need the vehicle driven back to the UK/Europe (instead of shipping it) we would also be interested.
Any other comments on where to look out for a vehicle or any other random advice would be welcomed.
THANKS

Buying a vehicle for overlanding in Africa
This site will give you some leads.
luangwablondes | A guide for the overseas self drive, self sufficient, vehicle dependent visitor in Africa
There seems to be usually a couple always available fully kitted out.
There is a unimog that the owners would like someone qualified to drive back to London. Go to the forum and look in the classified section. That looks like the ideal vehicle for you.

Thanks, site looks cool and have tagged it as a favourite! Unfortunately a few of the vehicle sales links weren't clicking through properly, but will definately keep an eye out there.
We are looking to be a bit more mobile than the Unimog and are looking more for a Landcruiser/Hilux or LR.

Hi,
I have a fully equipped 110 defender 2003 TD5 in storage in cape town. I drove the car to Malawi to fine tune it for a round africa trip. Due to a family problem I now have to stay in the UK so will reluctantly sell the car.
BTW, don't be put off by a newer car for carnet purposes because the SAAA issue carnets based on fixed value groups. I can help you with all that too (although you don't need one for any SADC country and all the other sub saharahan ones).
Briefly;
110 TD5 defender
2003
180k kms
EMU uprated suspension with dual shocks.
Bull bar.
Long range tank.
Built in water tank.
Engel fridge.
Full length alloy roof rack.
Howling moon roof tent.
Roller drawer system (this is superb and a must for long trips).
High lift jack.
Extinguisher.
Air con.
Dual battery with split charger.
Recently rebuilt gearbox and full service (cost £1,400).
Offers around R145,000 (£10,500)
Let me know if your interested.
Cheers
Mike
