new overlanders portal
We have just set up a new overlanders portal to get things rolling again until martin (africa-overland) gets his back up and running. We have been waiting to be put on A-O for over a year now and we feel the info is too old for overlanders who are travelling now,its a basic site but if enough people want to put links on, it will get re-hashed as we go along. Overlanding is about sharing info and letting future overlanders know if its possible and to stop mis-information (bandits up that road etc!)
The site is worldtravel-overland we are still going around the world but the site will be updated every 15 days.

Our Overlander's Lounge enables anyone to promote their overland travel website, blog, or cause on a fairly popular website for free. We get a lot of traffic, and the Overlander's Lounge is a great way to direct some of that traffic to your site.
Nessie - let me know, and I'll include a link to your new portal as well.

new overlanders portal
Great minds think alike it seems...
We are all trying to fill the hole left by the dormant Africa Overland Network.
I have set up Africa-Overland.Org. It follows the ethos of the original site but is dynamic so easier to keep updated. Overlanders complete a form that updates a database and their details are then shown on the site (after a review - principally neccessitated by incessant Viagra advertising during testing!).
I hope all of you overlanders out there, 4WD or motorbike, will register your details here.

I would like to take the opportunity to mention another initiative. Not to fill the hole [as some mentioned it] but only to complete the others.

New to Horizons Unlimited?

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
