Alaska to Argentina in an HJ47

Hi all.

Please drop by www.landtrek.net to find out how we are doing with the preparations of our trip, specifically our engine rebuild.

I will post here everytime a new update is available.

Thanks for reading!

Dan’s the Man

As you’ll remember, the rebuilding of the engine had come to a grinding stop as we couldn’t find correct sized rod bearings. Fortunately.....read the rest of the story here

Hey Dan!

Great to hear that you are also traveling in a HJ47! We are currently on the road in Africa with ours and have barely come across another 40 series let alone a long wheel base.

Will read more about your engine rebuild when we have proper internet again.

Enjoy the rest of your preparations and have a great trip!

Cheers
Fabian

Thanks Fabian.

Glad to hear you are enjoying travelling with your HJ47 !
Africa may well be next on our bucket list of places to see... Hope so.

My name is actually Marc. "Dan's the man" is a quote from our blog page. A teaser, if you will. Sorry for the confusion.

ts really a nice car!

I love the look of these older Land Cruisers, but I guess i wouldnt like the comfort

Do you really plan to heat water for the shower over the fire all the time to argentinia?

You should be able to find some portable gas water heater at bigger stores! Or use an Engine-Heatexchanger, or at least a solar shower.

Here you will find some helpful links:

4x4tripping: On Board Hot Water Shower System

There is too an translation button. I guess you are able to build your own heat exchanger when you was able to rebuild your engine. Therefore you dont have to spend much money for that upgrade
Safe travels! I will follow your progress here and at your Blog!

I hope to hit the panamericana too soon... The way up - so we may meet us probably ;-)

Hey Surfy!

Thanks for posting.

We fianlly opted to bring along an "instant hot water heater" device from Coleman. We will still be using the pop-up tent we used in Vermont but the water heater will be connected to one of the water tanks of the camper. Much better.

I hope to post a page of a typical day of ours on the road one day, if/when I find/take the time so folks will see how we live on the road.

Looking forward to meeting you on the off-road!

CHeers!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
