Full video of Tunisia Trip in 95 LR Discovery

It has only taken 2 years, but I have finally finished and uploaded the fully edited video of our overland trip, in a 95 LR Discovery, to Tunisia with Atlas Overland.

The trip took place in October 2010 and the write up can be found here:

Tunisia October 2010

and the videos are here:

Tunisia 2010 - The video

enjoy

Glad you enjoyed it.

The picture and sound editing got better as I went along. I did try and make the music fit the scene.

This was the result of over 60 hours of video and over 2500 photos.

As you can imagine it took many hours to finish.

Just for a bit of fun, here is a trailer I posted on Youtube before I managed to get the videos finished

Bob asked me a few questions via a PM. I thought the answers might be of interest to others so I have copied my response here:

This is the camera mount that I used:

http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_car_s..._mount_sm1.htm

It was very stable and you can even mount it on the outside of the vehicle if you're feeling brave.

I would advise against the idea of mounting the camera and just letting it run for the following reasons.

1. A fixed view, through the windscreen, leads to a pretty boring video after a while. That's why I inserted still photos, just to add some variety. On my next trip I shall be using various mounting points and 2 cameras to add some variety. There is a programme running on BBC at the moment called 'world's most dangerous roads'. It is worth watching the variety of camera angles and viewpoints they use to add interest. There seems to be a general rule that any clip over 10-12 seconds-ish showing the same view becomes very boring. If you watch most films/tv programmes it's amazing how often they change the angle/view. I tried to stick to this with my videos but it was very difficult with just one angle of view.

2. I had over 60 hours of video from one 2 week trip. It was a mind numbing task to go through it all and edit it down. It probably took me the equivalent of 10 full days to put together the 1h 45m that is on the website. Anything more than that becomes a real slog to watch in one go. I ripped several DVDs for other group members and >2 hours still allows you good quality video on one DVD disc.

I have now bought a GoPro Hero2 HD (£299) and a Kodak Playsport (£90) for the next trip. They are both 1080p HD, water and dust proof and come with a variety of internal and external mounts. In addition I have already 'mapped' out, in my mind some of the angles and 'shots' that I want to take before I leave.

For the editing I used imovie and an Apple MacBook Pro. I have used PCs for many years but, last year, decided to try a mac and I am now pretty sold on it. Especially for video editing. Imovie is a fantastic package considering that it is free.

If you want to stick with PCs then I can recommend Adobe Premier Elements which is about £70-ish.

I hope this is of interest.

Many apologies but it would seem that my site has been 'hacked' and hijacked. It now seems to direct you to a search page.

I have contacted my host company and I hope it will be back up and running soon.

I have now received a grovelling apology from my webhost. Apparently they 'upgraded' my site to new secure servers. Unfortunately they left the domain name behind so it defaulted to a search page.

Still its up and running again now.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
