Hello all,

I have made a few posts on here regarding a planned trip taking place, the responses have been extremely useful in the planning and preparation I thought this would be the best place to offer an opportunity to join

I am directing a documentary entitled Sahara "the truth" which will present, in essence, what adventure travel is all about and what it is like from the ground up on a realistic budget. This is the second series, the first being Kilimanjaro "THe truth" currently being hosted on the adventure company.com website. We have a fantastic camera man who has worked on 3 of the Harry potter films and a number of documentaries who will also be taking part in the editing process and we are hoping to enter this one into a few film festivals when complete.

Although the documentary is based on the journey of 2 main cast myself, a musician (Intro Page - Rex Pearson Guitarist For Hire) and my partner in the first series i have decided that it would be be great to fill the team with a member from this website. We are looking for someone with experience, particularly the border crossings involved see itenary below, ability to talk the language would be fantastic and some knowledge of car repairs in the desert would be useful! also experience or contacts to help with the selling of vehicles in Mali Bomako. Your role would be an advisory one rather than on the film but would be fully credited in the film which you will receive a copy of before release, as well as a few cameo appearances such as the title sequence. All basic equipment will be provided Inc vehicles, camping set up etc if there is anyone on here who would be keen to join this journey let me know. You will simply be joining the cast and crew for this journey and helping to sort the crossings

Basic itenery is as follows but a much more detailed one can be provided to anyone who is interested in this journey
London, France, Spain, morocco, western sahara, Mauritania, Mali sell vehicles*

Costs to this final member of the crew are as follows:
As you will be taking part in the journey you will need to be ok with camping up with cast and crew in most countries, although your own tent is provided.*
This is not a paid role but more a "coming along for thr ride". You will need to cover your own visa, an equal share of food/fuel/water cost and your 1 way ticket home from bomako. That's it, a significantly cheaper way of doing a trip like this as all equipment are already provided.*

Date: we will be departing around the 1st august 2011 and expecting to do the trip in 21 days to allow for some sights along the way.

If there is anything more you would like to know please ask. I would also like to invite anyone already going a similar way at that time to tag on to our convoy if you would like, providing you don't mind being filmed

Look forward to hearing from you

Hey all, i had posted on here a little while ago that i was doing the atlantic route as part of a documentary and its almost time to depart!. We will be setting off on the weekend of the 1st of August from Peterborough in the UK.

I just wanted to put this post up to
1) keep people updated on the progress as it happens as it could prove useful for people travelling after myself and the crew, im also going to try and use twitter as well to keep people informed on my progress @rexpearson if you would like to follow
2) If anyone will be in the area Uk France, Spain, Morroco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali in August who might like to convoy up or meet us along the way or join us for one of the legs we would love for people to join in the fun. Motorcyclist welcome to partner up and we have room for some of your gear too

A final note, there is a space in 1 of the vehicles for an additional member of the team if anyone reading this might like to join us then please contact me on here and i will get back to you.

Thanks to everyone on here who have provided priceless advise, really looking forward to visiting this part of the world

Don't forget the Ramadan this year falls right on the period you will be travelling. Good luck!

Grist to the mill

Presumably the choice of season and coinciding with Ramadan is intentional for the purposes of filming an interesting/challenging documentary?

Good luck with it guys.

Hey guys thanks for the Replies! Yes august is gonna be hot but the month of Ramadan should make for some really interesting footage. Im really hoping this film will open up this part of the world to many western countries who think they are not able to view some of those beautiful sights and meet with a lovely culture

Actually just picked up the second shogun for the trip today; fantastic machine!

Thanks to all who Pm'ed I'll reply shortly

Sahara the Truth Documentary has finished

Hello everyone!

1 Year on and the documentary for sahara the truth has been completed and is available to watch. I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to Horizons unlimited for providing such a wonderful place for information, without which, a documentary like this would never have been made!

I hope that this serves in some way as an equally great resource for people looking at travelling through the Saharan regions.

Synopsis:
Long Synopsis
What may appear as a documentary about adventure travel in some of the worlds harshest countries quickly moves way to a story about friendship. Sahara the truth begins in the peaceful town of peterborough in the UK as 2 ordinary people set of with a head full of dreams, fears and hope on a journey that will push them both to the brink. A simple idea instilled from childhood and the night time stories of his farther Rex Pearson, now a musician has always wanted to turn these stories into a reality. A lot has changed since the 1970s when his father had initially carried out the trip

Rex's father had always told stories about the majesty and beauty of the Sahara desert, The beauty of the stars at night and the mysterious people who call this place their home. He nearly died in the crossing in the 1970s and ever since he heard the stories he always wanted to discover what he had gone through. What is it really like to try something like this for yourself does it really need a full production crew and support vehicles along with buckets of funding. Is that really a truthful representation of the early explorers efforts to these countries. Whats the Truth behind crossing the Sahara on nothing but a shoe string budget that anyone can afford. This year the time was right to make the crossing. Armed with little more than some old vehicles, a tiny budget and a head full of dreams join the duo as they attempt a crossing of the western Sahara

A documentary following 2 ordinary people embarking on an adventure that quickly turns into an extraordinary journey for their friendship!

The Documentary series Sahara 'The Truth' follows Musician Rex Pearson And Giovanni Chimento on an adventure of a lifetime that will push themselves and their friendship to breaking point.

Again a massive thank you from me and all the team for the fantastic advice of members here whose words truly helped in our times of need. This is a fantastic place for people to discover these rarely visited regions

Rex

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
