Australia
Hi All
I'm arriving in Perth 19th January, my bike is arriving by the 13th (hopefully). Once it's cleared customs and quarantine, I believe I have to go to the local DVL and get it registered (temporary?) which comes with basic insurance for WA and all states.
IF anyone knows different or can advise me it would be much appreciated.
I'm planning to ride north before heading inland to see if I can ride the Anne Beadell Hiway towards Adelaide/Victor Harbour, then up to Darwin, across to Cairns and down to Melbourne (mid Sept) and shipping out to Auckland, NZ.
Thanks, Mark

Yeas it seems youre doing it the right way. Although as you can see in this thread I started earlier about insurance - there are different opinions about this topic...

thanks snakeboy
I guess and hope that doing it on a carnet straight from the uk is going to be relatively straightforward!!!??? we will see
If the bike lands on time and we clear customs ok I'm hoping to be on the road by the 20th January and heading north on the coast initially, if we met up and rode together a while that would be cool

Anne Beadell
Anne Beadell Highway @ ExplorOz Treks
~1,400km ... with one petrol station ... read the above link for details, including permits, when the rocket range is in use etc. Expect lots of corrugations, some sand in the west. The track runs west east.
Tracks running north south ish can be found on that exploroz site above...

No need for registration but you do need third party insurance at least.
Have a great trip and let me know when you're planning on visiting Sydney.

When you are heading to North Qld (Cairns through to Bowen) drop me a line or give me a call (PM me for number) and I will give you some good oil on local sites and cool rides etc.
Might even be able to provide a patch of grass for a tent and shower as well as a washing machine should you need it.
Althought there are MUCH better places to camp just out side Townsville than in the centre.
Maggie Island is worth a visit, Paluma, etc etc etc.
Cheers,
Spanner

Through the middle of Australia in the middle of summer and solo on a bike.
Bad enough in the middle of winter let alone summer.
Ride where the camels walk. They hate corrugations too.
This could be a good song to ride by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXxL2K3_-4c

Yeah if you can try and make Australia in spring or Autumn it would be best as the winters down south are shockingly cold and the summers up north are wet because of the monsoon activities.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
