Bike swap

I have in Sydney Australia a 2009 v-strom DL650 with only 22k on the clock 12 months registration new tyres etc etc full luggage system heated grips bash plate crash bars etc etc set up to travel around the world .This was my second v-strom and I cant fault them .
As hard as it is to part with this bike I couldnt resist buying the new Suzuki 800 De vstrom So do I sell the DL 650 for a song (about 6K) or is there a market to keep it and swap this in exchange for another bike in another country .I find this more logical and cheaper than hiring one in another country or shipping it .Been there done that along time ago. So is anyone interested in swapping this great DL 650 for a month or so for say a similar setup adventure bike in New Zealand or Japan for a similar time period .Two countries i am yet to explore . Just putting out feelers to determine if I should hang onto her . Matt

I'd post in the HU Bike Swap or Rent forum too, see what the reaction is there. Loads of people have done swaps and it has worked for them.

DO check with your insurance company on rules for "loaning" a bike to a friend.

There is an occasional market for such swaps, but it's difficult to get right, primarily since in less sun-blessed countries riders are rarely willing to let go of their bikes for significant parts of the already short riding seasons.

If you're not desperate for the money and have a place to keep the 650, you could certainly offer it to visitors for a reasonable rental fee - as long as you're comfortable with navigating the insurance aspects of it (i.e. from the Australian government's point of view, can you just throw the keys to a friend and have them legally ride your vehicle for a few weeks? Across state lines?).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
