Coming to Australia: NSW-Vic-SA touring
Hi All, My girlfriend Rosie & I are flying over in a few days to spend 5 weeks exploring some of Oz. Hopefully our bikes are on their way right now & will be ready to roll on Monday.
We're starting in Sydney & the plan is to travel down through the hills to Melbourne, then across to Adelaide, then up through the Flinders into the outback & to Innamincka, then complete the loop back to Sydney.
We have a KTM 640 Enduro & a Kawasaki Super Sherpa 250 that look like this:
So say hi if you see us!
We've had some great route suggestions from a few locals for a lot of the trip, but have no firm plans other than the outline above, so any hints on places to see & roads to take are appreciated, particularly for the Innamincka - Sydney leg that we haven't had much local input on yet.
Cheers
Clint

Good luck Clint & Rosie - have a great ride.
... but please tell ..
I'm in NZ right now, and want to ship my Kiwi Honda Transalp (XL650V) to explore Oz for 4-5 months from next March [2010]. Preferred import destination is either Sydney or Melbourne. So how did you get your bikes across the ditch Clint? - method, shippers, etc?
Thanks
KEITH

Thanks Mate.
We're airfreighting over, & seafreighting back, to/from Sydney. I got 2 steel crates from the local bike shop & bolted them together & with a couple of mods the bikes went in no problem - front wheel off & handlebars off is the std method. We gave them a real thorough clean 1st.
We're using Go Logistics; <chris@gologistics.co.nz> they were recommended by a couple of other travellers, & have been very good to date, giving a coherent quote & being very helpful on the phone. We'll let you know how it all went when we get back.
The bikes are going in under Carnets from the NZ AA, which seems to be the only way to do it, despite what the Aus customs site says about temporary import permits.
Cheers
Clint

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
