A NZ-registered bike can be taken to Australia and ridden around, no problem .. BUT only under cover of a carnet.
I don't know of a vehicle ferry sevice across the Tasman. Shipping your bike over by air freight is the easiest and quickest solution.
Selling it in Oz is a different matter though. It's not that easy (or practical), because aussie permanent import rules are very strict indeed. In other words, you'll almost certainly need to get the bike back 'home' to NZ in order to sell it.
But why not ride-on around and through Oz .. then just keep on going .. all the way to the UK?
After leaving the comfort zone - and relative expense - of 'the West' is where and when your adventure will really begin.

It's over 2100km from Sydney to Auckland in a straight line and a whole lot more than that by ship as you've got to travel all the way around to the east coast of NZ to get to Auckland harbour. In other words, that's a bit more than London to Morocco in a straight line.
You can easily sell an Aussie bike in New Zealand, so maybe that's the way to do it... But you've booked your tickets.
Cheers
Nigel in NZ

It is expensive to ship a bike from NZ to Australia. More expensive than shipping to the States.
Buy a bike in NZ, use it while you are here, then sell it before you leave. May want a different type of bike in Australia anyway.
Bikes are about the same price in both countries and there are lots available.
Try Trade Me site in NZ and there are a number of sites in Australia.
Good luck
