Yep, I definitely agree.

I've got the freebie NZ map(s) downloaded onto my laptop's HD, and I have nothing but huge praise for graemewi and his colleagues over on the NZ Open GPS Project site. True altruism (a nice change).

This sounds great, may have to head to NZ again one of these days. Does anyone have recommendations for a cheap Australian set of GPS maps.

Peter

Thanks for the tip. Did a quick look and will work on it some more tonight. From what I saw the maps are much better than what I had in South America and it says they are free. Is there a catch? Much better than what I got from "Smelly biker".

Bob

OSM maps are built on the wiki principle: users draw maps on a blank slate, meaning they are incomplete, some roads are spot on, some are inaccurate. Other than that I can see no catch.

Be fair and update the map, though.

Smellybiker's Wanderlust: I think one of Bob's contributors has done a lot of work there, but Bob hasn't published the map yet. I don't know why... I haven't given up hope yet.

I think you need to load them up via the Garmin Mapsource or Basecamp programs.

Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
