The cam chain tensioner is indeed the bolt-on thing on the cylinder by the starter motor, if you can I'd suggest swapping to a manual cam chain tensioner, but if you're mechanically inexperienced get someone with experience to show you how to set it - it's not hard but there's a bit of "feel" to getting it just right.
If you have doubts, get the top end checked over (valve clearances, play in the cam bearings, etc), too - the Honda XL/XR etc motors are tough, but not indestructible and the 200s and 250s are all getting on a bit now!
