Looking for a shipping address in Darwin...

I am currently crossing Indonesia at the moment with plans to enter Australia at Darwin. My camping gear is sitting at a friend's in Sydney and I need it shipped up to Darwin.

The problem is that I have no contacts in Darwin. I am looking for someone to receive my camping gear and hold onto it for a few weeks until we arrive in Darwin.

I have contacted the Darwin Community, but have received no response.

Any help would be appreciated! I can be contacted by email.

Thumbs up Darwin Backpackers

Hi David,

When we arrived in Darwin we stayed at Elkes Backpackers (112 Mitchell St, Darwin - find them on the web). They were really nice people and I'm sure if you contacted them they would receive your gear for you. We stayed in the hostel (a bit pricey after Asia) but I think you can pitch a tent there too... There is a very welcoming pool!

Enjoy the rest of Indonesia!

Cheers

You could also use "Poste Restante" an international postal convention, ... mail marked "poste restante" would be held at the post office for at least 2 weeks ...

Plan on say 3 to 7 days from Sydney to Darwin delivery and say 1 week from there - that would give you a lea way of a week.

Simply have the parcel addressed to

"me - first name, LAST NAME"
Poste Restante
GPO
Darwin
NT

--- That should get it to the central post office in Darwin. And you won't be tied to any hotel/backpackers etc.

Ok, thanks for the help, folks. I just contacted Elkes Backpackers by email, will see what they say.

The Poste Restante option is less desirable as the situation in E. Timor is a bit iffy at the moment and our plans may change. I think dealing with the hostel may be a bit simpler than dealing with the post if I need my gear routed elsewhere.

Thanks again!

look up the Ulysses Club motorbike website and contact one of their members in Darwin. They will help out for sure. One such request for help by a dutch couple found a Ulysses Club member who stored their two motorbikes while they went back to holland for a month....so your request will be easy I am sure.
Not sure of the web name but try www.ulysses.org or .com.au or just do a search. It is an Australian wide bike club for people over 45. they have thousands of members.

David and Cheryl, thanks for the info. I have just contacted Ulysees via their contact form on their website. Hopefully I will get some kind of response.

No response from Elkes Backpackers though...

Hey again folks. I haven't heard back from either Elke's or the Ulysses Club. Perhaps I am not geting through to the right person? Our internet access lately has been slow and expensive.

Any other suggestions, does anyone know someone helpful in Darwin?

Hey folks. Looks like I will try shipping to the Shady Glen Caravan Park in Darwin, they seemed helpful over the phone.

Elke's Backpackers didn't have any tent space, so the Caravan Park seems a bit better for us anyway.

Thanks for all the help!
