Merino & Possum Wool Sweater Factory
I want to buy some sweaters on my next visit to NZ & being a very poor retired Motor cyclist I would like to buy straight from the makers rather than pay shop prices.
Please can you tell me where I can find the sweater makers & if they sell to the public.I will be touring both wonderful Islands.

These are ones I know of in the South Island.
In Dunedin there is the Tamahine factory which has an annual sale. Not sure if it's open to the public at other times.
Tamahine Sale - Tamahine Apparel Solutions
In Christchurch there is a factory shop, used to be called Lane Walker Rudkin, but think it's now just called Canterbury.
It's on the corner of Montreal and Brougham Streets, Sydenham, Christchurch. Ph (03) 379-1830.
There also used (5+ years ago) to be another one just a few blocks (5 mins walk) from there. I can't remember what it was called, or even if it is still there, and it was more in the way of undergarments/socks and end of lines/seconds/samples etc, but it was much cheaper than the Canterbury shop.
Hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip.

Not sure if this is the one, but there are 2 places in Napier on the North Island
1. Opossum World
2. Classic Sheepskins
I can do some research for you if you like as I live there
Cheers

The factory that makes Lothlorian merino/possum sweaters and other products is located in Adams Drive, Pukekohe. But they do not sell direct to the public. At least the previous owners, ex-neighbours of ours, did not. They don't have a web site, and I don't know their email address, but their phone number is +64 9 2381169.

Try www.snowypeak.co.nz
They are in Christchurch, 155 Roydvale Ave, ph +64 3 358-3809. From the web site it does not look as if they have any factory sales direct to public.

Ice breaker: Merino wool clothing.
We bought ourselves Icebreaker base layers for our trip. Not cheap but very good. I have since bought gloves and beanies by the same manufacturer.
As I said, not cheap, but that was Kensington High Street in London, rather direct from the supplier, before the round the world shipping costs!!
If they are on your route and the price is acceptable, I would happily recommend this company!
