Got my bike out of the port yesterday!
Quarantine fees was another 200 bucks, so the total cost of shipping the bike from Chile to Brisbane comes to AU$1521.37.
Funny that out of the total only AU$407 was actually the cost of shipping and additional fees and charges almost quadruple that... Makes you think.
However, much cheaper than flying the bike back. I was quoted US$2000 (excluding fees and charges).
Selling the bike in Chile is extremely difficult, since authorities wont allow imports - so unless you find somebody who is willing to buy your bike and use it as a farm bike it is not gonna happen. Also selling your bike to fellow travellers is not without difficulties, since the temporary import permit is in your name and next time the new owner tries to cross the border he might get into trouble because everything is now computerised in South America.
Better dash - Australia is waiting to be explored!
