Trip planning - weather
Hey folks,
I'm currently planning my trip around Oz. At the moment I'm in Sydney to earn some travel cash and prepare my bike.
I planned to start beginning of December to go to Tasmania for a couple of weeks and then ride towards Perth.
I basically want to go everywhere and have until the end of June 2010 when my visa expires.
Do you have any advise which regions I should preferably cover in which months? Considering weather conditions...
Cheers,
Frank

Well in six months you could cover the whole country.
Generally summer is the best time down south, especially Victoria and Tasmania, and winter (the dry season) is the best time to be up north.
Summer is also probably the best time to ride through alpine areas, provided there are no bushfires.
I suggest autumn is a good time to go to any outback places that you may want to visit.
If you're riding from Melbourne to Perth be sure to include the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Where are you planning to go after Perth? Will you be ending the ride back in Sydney?

Hey Damon,
Good to see you here on the hubb! I managed to get a well paid job and planned to leave Sydney end of October. First stop Tasmania. I'll give you a buzz when I'm in your area.
Cheers,
Frank

No worries mate you can crash on the lounge here mate
I've been haunting the forums as my bike is in the shop getting fixed (been out of action for about 6 weeks) and getting my american trip in order for August next year
You can head up any time but just be prepared for heat and water and that can be lots of both in Summer

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
