I am planning a motor cycle trip to Iceland from mid July 2014 for about 4 weeks. I have six weeks leave in total from my job in Far North Queensland Australia so I'm looking at options other than renting a bike in Iceland (about $150 - $175 Euro per day for a BMW GS650) or doing the organized group bike tour ( big dollars!) which I'm not adverse to as an absolute last resort however I would prefer to have something tangible ( ie the bike !) at the end of the trip that I can either sell or park up for another tour. Some 12 months ago I bought a new Honda XR250 in Chile and then resold to a Chilean local, 4 months and 12,000 km later for $1,200 less than what I paid, so it can definitely be done however I just need some suggestions from the HU community in this part of the world.
Thinking about buying a lightweight touring bike no larger than a 650. I ride a DR650 here in Cairns Australia..
Looking at options of buying in UK, Germany or Denmark then shipping (round trip) to Iceland from Denmark.for both bike and passenger, other option is to offer my bike here in Cairns Australia plus 1 month free accommodation at my home in Cairns Queensland which is within spitting distance of the Great Barrier Reef in return for your bike in eitherIceland, Scandinavia or Germany/UK.
