Air Filter on the R1200GS
Sorry for such a stupid question (at least I am sure it is) but my R1200GS air filter is a dry filter. When I read the adventure motorcycle handbook and some equipment from Touratech etc... it always talks about oiling the air filter, important to keep the air filter...
Am I not getting it? Do I need to oil the air filter?
Let me know

You can replace the stock dry air filter with an aftermarket one which is washable. Oil is then applied after washing. These filters are a great idea if you are travelling often in dusty conditions and or can't get near a dealer for a replacement filter. And they last forever. A number of manufacturers supply them (Touratech, Wunderlich etc..). I have a Wunderlich filter which seems to work great.

I have been using the K&N and I'm pretty happy with it.
A bit expensive at first but then it should last as long as the bike, So in a longterm you save some.
It's easy to wash and oil and suppose to give you a couple more of horse power (It's what the manufacture said). I didn't really feel them.
Cheers,
Fredo.

You don't oil a paper filter!
You can put a pre filter on the bike ..
UNI filter snorkel precleaner (pk2) - Part no. NU 7306 Unifilter Australia Foam Air Filters for Economy and Performance
And they do a foam filter too if you want to go that way. The paper filters do not survive water submersion that is why some prefer them.
