Airhead updates: Wedgetail, CarbMate, Odyssey and more
I've recently installed Wedgetail computerised electronic ignition in my R100GSPD. This replaces the "bean can" hall sensor and the ECU with a digital system that advances the ignition based on feedback from a sensor and an engine map in the chip. So it will not suffer from the sticking idle. It also makes some small changes to the map when the engine is cold. Static timing is all that is needed (at tickover) rather than dynamic timing (at high revs). It's working very well. Cold starting is instant, warm-up is quick.
I've also just replaced my Odyssey PC680 after about 18 years! At first I replaced it with a cheaper Enduroline AGM battery, which failed after a few weeks - back to Odyssey, expecting it to last 20 years! (maintained with a C-TEK).
I recently added an EME adjustable regulator, which allows me to set the voltage to match my alternator output (400W) and gadgets.
I'm now using a Tecmate CarbMate electronic carb gauge. It indicates balance using a set of lights, centred on a happy-face symbol. I certainly have a happy-face now. Tuning is so much simpler.
For the forks, I've added a FlatRacer fork-brace, which seems good. I have also replaced the forks with a used set from Sewd Design (via ebay). I have a set of Misano fork cartridges to try - more about that in a separate post.
