BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, bought brand new in September 2012, had originally Metzeler Tourance EXP. First time the rear tire I had to change after 12500 km. On the second one, still I am talking about rear tire, and still the same type, I have already 16500 km and it looks better than that first changed after 12,5 K km.
Whats the matter? The same motorcycle, the same driver, the same load, the same tire - and so big difference in mileage?
The reason is, I am quite certain, that on the first tire I rode fast. Even exceeding 200 km/h quite often (Poland and Germany).
On the second tire set however I did the Nordkapp, what means travelling through Scandinavia, what means having an average speed at the level of 75 km/h. Very rarely exceeding 120 km/h. Then I went to Iran through Turkey, also not speeding at all.
So, speed matters! Lower speed gives an extra couple thousands of kilometers mileage on the tires, and making any comparisons one should remember that.
