I run mostly on cheaper oils - semi-synh for cars, because it's quite slowly rotating engine, no need for expensive motorycle oils. Just replace the oil/filter at the time - every 10K kilometres and you're OK. I also replace gearbox and final drive oils at the same intervals - think how much work they have to do, and indeed, i know a rider who says the key to BMW final drive's long lasting is chaning it's transmission oils more often than manual suggests. I think the same goes to gearbox too, and it's quite cheap&easy to replace all the oils your own.
For engine in hotter conditions use SAE 20W-50 or 15W-50 oils.
Cheers, Margus

Much as Margus says - any modern, good quality brand name oil will do fine. The engine is not super highly stressed, so doesn't NEED a super oil. Synthetics may help it last a little longer, but may also bring with them leak problems, and are hard to get - and even more expensive than usual - in Latin America.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
