Frame Alignment

I'm pulling my R100GSPD to pieces following a prang. Nothing too major, just a crash bar bent, broken screen, mirror and indicator - front wheel washed out and dropped it. I notice when looking down on the engine (with tank and seat removed), the centre line of the top of the engine doesn't line up with the centreline of the top frame tube. I can't see any obvious damage- bent frame, forks etc but wonder if the engine is offset or tilted to the right ie: assymetric. I really don't want a bent frame. Anyone assist?

...beemer frames get bent when crashbar is being used...

You do probably not need to do anything about it - but you will most likely notice that you can not let go of the handlebars anymore whilst driving ...

Seen (photos/homesites) some good frameworks done down-under - ask around. You will find guys who can help you double-check the condition of your frame, and help you improve on the poor Bavairan "bambo-fence" design. (My japanese bikes frames were far superior to the beemer ...).

If you look at the right side of the timing case cover you can see that the cover is "modified" because the engine is tilted to the right.

Timing case cover is #6: RealOEM.com BMW 47E3 R 80 GS PROTECTING COVER - CHAIN COVER

There are four spacers used to center/tilt the engine. The spacers are not equal and if you mix them you will get strange results.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
