Leaking WP on R80 GS Basic
Currently in Namibia and my rear shockabsorber has started to leak.
Does anybody know if it is possible to rebuild it?

If your shock is a WP, it should be rebuildable. I know most manufacturers will rebuild other brand shocks, so look around when sourcing this service. My concern would be the time this might take while you are on the road...
It might be cheaper in the long run to purchase a new shock, and plan to rebuild your shock when get the time, then sell one of them.

Yepp, the Basic was equiped with a WP originally from BMW.
When i removed the unit today I noticed that the bottom bearing (where the lower bolt fits) altso is broken. This is the worst bearingdesign I've seen...

BMW doesn't list parts for that shock, but that doesn't mean it can't be rebuilt.
WP may be able to supply parts, contact them and see what they have to say. Also the seals may be standard items you can get anywhere. The BMW dealers in Cape Town or in Windhoek may be able to help. If the shock can't be rebuilt they can get you something. Trefco in Cape Town is particularly good from our experience.
If you can get the parts it's not hard to rebuild - but you need to be able to repressurize the shock. Dirt bike shops can usually do that, and can probably do the rebuild for you.

I have the same problem with an WP shock on my KTM Adventure. I am currently in India about to cross into Pakistan on my way back to Europe.
Spoke to Wayne at WP in UK (tel +44 1507 327 509) who was helpful. He offered to service the shock on the same day and return it to me if I send it to the UK; but courrier charges would no doubt be prohibitive.
He can also send out a set of oil seals for a rebuild which sounds preferable to me as long as I can work out how to put it together. All I need now is to find someone who can refill the gas and maybe even do the rebuild for me.
I have heard rumours of a BMW dealer in Lahore (Mall Road). Can any of you BMW riders confirm or deny this? I can't find anything for Pakisatan on the BMW site. Maybe they would even have a set of seals....
Cheers,
Graham.
