noise coming from tank? fuel filter?

1997 r1100gs, 78Kmiles. a high pitched noise just starting coming from inside the tank i think? does this mean the fuel filter needs to be replaced. i replaced it at 48kmiles.
i'm in buenos aires and i'm guessing i need to get a new one before continuing on.

should i not ride it with this noise?

thanks for the advice.

The book says to replace them between 12,000 - 24,000 miles depending on the riding conditions.

Filter should have been ok up to round 32K miles, as the designers always plan on people who cannot get the machine serviced at the correct intervals, but 40+ is pushing it even beyond what I would do.

You might want to look at the fuel pump as well, and while your there drain your fuel lines as I bet they have more crap in them then needs to be, don't forget the fuel lines feed the filter so if the filters clogged the lines are going to be as well.

**********

Now if you bothered to read my previous posts regarding fuel filters and badly running bikes, you will have noticed me pimping MR. Funnel (£10 + P&P) will mean that you wont have to mess around with the fuel filters again, got it Mr. Funnel saves you time and money while your on the road.

Now this is the part where the armchair guys say you don't need one of them, trust me you do it seperates the fuel from any water and crap that will want to f*ck up your machine. All for the huge some of £10 for an external fuel filter, YOU have just found out that you need one and your away from home and are going to have fun sourcing another filter.

So that's just common sense to me, take precautions to stop this type of thing happening.

Ride safe

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
