R80GS on ebay (18 April)
There's a beautiful R80GS on ebay UK at the moment. Put together by a BMW tech for a RTW. The crash bars are especially well done - German I believe. It's always interesting to see what mods owners do to their bikes and this one's particularly well done by the looks of it.

The crash bars seem to prevent the lid from coming off to do a valve job.

crash bars
Indeed you are correct, however I think the extra protection is worth the hassle of removing them when required. Anyone know who makes them? The owner of the GS didn't know except they were German. I note Overland Ernie makes a similar product.

Crash bars
I have a similar set that are chromed on my G/S. I purchased them (on a whim) at Motobins, I believe they are made in Germany. It is hard to tell from the angle of the piture, but the ones I have are off-sett (wider) then the cylinders by enough to remove the valve cover. To wide in fact, so mine are coming off and will be for sale. I like the idea of wrap around protection for the heads, but I think one bar under the cylinder is enough. It doesn't work to make the engine any wider - it is already wide enough!
Aside from the repainted frame and Acerbis tank, the bike doesn't appear to be heavily modified.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
