Strange noise on F650

HI Folks,
I have '97 F650 and I am preparing her for my long trip. A week ago i went to petrol station to fill the tank up. I filled up went inside to pay and when I come back I saw a small lake under the bike. It was puking the patrol. I thought I have overfilled the tank. Push the bike to home (about 200 yards) because it didn't started. In the morning after, it started with a huge backfire. Now I am hearing a voice/noice from somewhere carburettor area. The sound is like, you try to suck the coke on the bottom of a glass with a straw. You know that its happening in McDonalds Any idea what it might be? I dont wanna stuck somewhere in Middle East..

Thanks

Might be a blown intake pipe, mine is doing that right now.

See http://www.smellybiker.com/ for more info - look at 'latest news'.

Go to <www.f650.com> and click on FAQs = Frequently Asked Questions. There is a section on carburetors, entitled "puking petrol." You have to take the carbs out (see how it's done in the FAQs), remove float bowls. The float seat is fitted with an O=ring. Over time the 0-ring shrinks and no longer holds the float seat in place, hence puking petrol. While you have the carbs out, dismantle them, clean them thoroughly with carb cleaner, and replace the three O-rings. It's a dirty job, and you can let a mechanic do it. But since you're off on a long trip to no-mechanic's land, it would be a good experience for you to learn how to clean the carbs. I had to do this in the boondocks of Namibia, a sobering experience.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
