Hi Rene, good review and trip story, thanks for taking time to share info.

I see that you are now travelling two-up after also going solo for quite a while. Any chance you could give a short opinion of the F650 for two-up travel and how much luggage/weight you are now carrying, does it all fit OK, are you carrying any camping gear, would you prefer a larger bike for two-up or is the smaller/lighter bike still a better proposition overall?

Skillo, The plan was for my girlfriend Amy and I to meet my sister in Salta at the top of Argentina, and the three of us to ride with all our gear to Ushuaia. Amy unfortunetly crashed in Bolivia, and is now in the US recovering. This meant a change of plans for now there was 2 people with full gear (including guitar and 2 tires!). We packed as follows: One pannier (41L) for tools and my clothes, one pannier (41L) for my sisters clothes. Tank bag with 2 side-of-the-tank bags for spare parts, and daily use items.
One the top of one pannier we bungeed my sisters day pack, and on the top of the other we bungied my dry bag, which did not have much in it, shoes, and odd ball sized things.

We did not carry camping gear. I have rarely scraped the bottom of the Dakar when I am loaded normally and only me on it, but it quite common with our current set up.

I do know people that have travelled two up with camping gear - check www.motodogging.com for Bob Morleys accounts in Bolivia and Argentina.

I would not care to do Routa 40 as we are now. My sister flies back to Canada in 2 days, and I will go back up for those roads solo. Big trip certainly can be done 2 up with all camping gear, but I would think the routing would be limited to good roads.
