Altberg boots shop in London

I've heard there is a shop in London that sells them. Any idea which one? where?

Thanks,

Maria

I was looking at their website the other day and it seems that they only sell direct from their factory outlet, they don't distribute to other retail outlets. It looks like the majority of their business comes from the police and military, with sales to the public as a minor sideline.

One other thing. The prices quoted on the web site are MORE than you pay if you order direct from the factory or over the net.

£30 cheaper for the High Bandog Desert boot, for instance

I am new to this forum, and happened upon this post. Try "Silvermans" in the 'East End' of London. They are based at 2 Harford Street, Mile End, London E1 4PS. A short walk from Mile End or Stepney Green Underground Stations (no parking). This is a big army surplus type store, and they are not open on Saturdays. They have a long counter and disappear into the wharehouse to get what you want to look at (some stuff is on display, including boots). They only have some of the range, and perhaps are not as cheap as contacting Alt-Berg directly! Incidentally, I have bought Clubman Roadster and Desert High Bandog boots from Alt-Berg (ordered by telephone), as well as some of their 'walking' boots. The boots are very good quality (I think), and the customer service was excellent.

Hope this helps.

Alt-berg do have a stand at one show that I know to. It's where I got my lace-up boots. That is the Stafford classic show. The only other way is to go to their shop or factory in Richmond and get sized up ( Mine came in a size bigger than usual). Then they'll make them for you. They don't keep a big stock of each type but make them to order.
It's worth all the trouble as they've been brilliant. Totally waterproof and comfortable from day one.

Thumbs up +1 for Altberg

Had all sorts of boots over the years none a comfy and waterproof as the Altberg bandogs with waterproof membrane. Treat them well with the recommended 'ledergris' wax and they get well supple.

Had my boots with hand cut sides due to wide calf and they arrived as promised with free tub of said wax. Wouldn't wear anything else now, even walked up Mt Snowdon in them, comfy as hike boots and the only thing you'll break is laces, a cheap and easy spare to carry.

Excellent service at the shop and they do have a well stocked shop that was very busy, don't just turn up and expect to get measured up, you NEED an appointment.

Roger.

Altberg have a stand at the BMF Peterborough.

I've had my Hogg Microlites for about 10 day's now and so far am less than convinced about the product & particulatly the service.

Hopefully they'll get better with time.

Phil

Cheers!

Thanks guys!
The Hubby went to the east end few months ago and had a close look at the boots. He then spoke with the factory and had them done for his precise size (wide feet!!). He seems very happy with his Altberg boots and will take them for our trip! So far they have ben totally waterproof, which was not the case with his previous ones! But just in case I got us sealskin socks

I'm visiting London for a few days and don't fancy going all the way to Richmond.

It looks like these guys may have a good selection:

I will let know how it went.

Bertrand I stand corrected however not the Handmade motorbike boots there as the hand made made to mesure boots they take mesurements of your feet, If they have started selling there handmade boots that would supprise me and I would pop in to see.

Being an OZie .. and having visited the factory .. this is my impression of the procedure for the leather boots..

First visit - they take your basic size (English size - wide fitting is 'standard' there) .. So if you know your CORRECT size then you might convince them to skip this bit for you .. might need to pay for the boots first as a matter of confidence in your sizing. Having been to the factory and got my altberg sizing I'm ok.

Second visit .. after they make the boots .. say 6 weeks (depends on the que through the factory). They check the fit .. and if necessary 'stretch' them for your feet. Some times the 'stretching' takes a day of two. Where that time delay is required you'll need to come back for a third fitting.

------------
For the non leather boots .. no stretch is possible .. so you just try them on and if they fit off you go (assumes they have them in stock).

================

The service I received was good.
Being an Ozie and used to traveling some distance (in some parts 400km from one home to the next is normal) I don't see too much of a problem running up to the factory .. make a nice trip of it.
