battery charger
Well, this is a new gadget to me, and since I haven't seen it before on the forum, thought I would pass it along. It's a solar powered battery charger that will charge AA, AAA batteries, either the regular or the super kind used in cameras. They're found at ATBATT.com for $34.95 USD. I will get one as soon as I can. I get these email ads all the time from Atbatt because I once bought some batteries for an older camera I no longer have. Most of the time I just delete the ad, but this caught my eye so I read about it. Could make a difference on long rides between running out of battery power or skimping on the photos you take, or just going ahead and shooting everything. That's my way, then I delete the ones that didn't come out right.
Joe
tried to cut and paste a photo of it, but it didn't come up. AtBatt is a good place to get a real bargain on batteries for laptops as well. I saved 60% on a new one for my laptop.

Well good luck with it but my experience has been that none of the solar powered AA battery chargers (about half a dozen over the last 20yrs) that I've had have done what they claim. Even after a full day in the sun the batteries have hardly any more charge than before I started.
I've only ever bought small (up to about paperback book size) ones so the large, TV screen sized, ones may work - I can't fit them on the bike so I've never tried them. It may also be that I've just bought rubbish makes so if anyone knows of one that works well I'd love to hear about it. For the moment though I've given up on the technology and have a 12v input charger from the bike.

I don't believe they can make an effective solar charger for AA batteries for that price, yet.
If they would, a company like MTN would instantly order a few million of them (to charge mobile phones) and sell/give them to their users, the majority of which have no power at home but more than enough sunshine...

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
