Does a compact mossie net with a base exist?

Hi folks.

We're off on a trip next year, and want to simply carry 'emergency/too expensive' camping gear, whilst in South America, and wonder if there's a small mossie net with a base available?

I've seen many, but none with a base. The ones without a base would fit in your pocket, but then there's quite a stretch to a tent/tarp.

Does what I'm looking for exist?

Thanks, folks.

In a nutshell, yes!
I know of one and it is part of a 'next generation' of tarp tents.
The inner may well be sold independently as a spare.
The base is sewn in and PU Coated nylon with HH 4000mm and has a zip access.
It has a ring to hang it up so you could use a bit of cord or disposable plastic hooks with adhesive bottoms if staying in a mozzy infested room!
Look up this one
If you look at the overall weight of:
Nest 418 grms
Tarp section 710 Grms and a few pegs = 1244 Grms overall + you'll need an adjustable pole which that seller has and is very good-
You may think it is worth having the best of both worlds if you were to get caught short.
Tarp section erects fast too- especially in the wind and rain with 4 ground pegs (min) and center pole and you have a shelter out of the elements. For bad weather you will have to use the guy lines too.

extra wee tip- anyone purchasing one of those needs to add SEAMSEAL as it is a good idea to seal all the stitching when the outer is new.

Tatonka Mossie Dome

have a look at this one:
www.trooper.ch/de/TATONKA-Moskitonetz-DOUBLE-MOSKITO-DOME.html

I'm using this here in the DRC and it works well. Is available in two different sizes and can be used on the ground or even on a hotel bed. Good protection if you don't know whats crawling around on the mattress.

Greets frim Kinshasa

Nice find Claudio and very useful if you need free-standing set up but it does weigh in at 1.5Kgs - heavier than the complete silmini set up but it is cheaper at about £102 against the £150 of the Sil but which will also give you a waterproof outer.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bertrand and Globetrotter.

Bertand, that's a lightweight setup indeed! What I wish I could buy though, is just that inner and tie it up/use a pole as required......

Globetrotter, that looks good too. Pretty much a tent without a top!

I'm no expert, but what we're planning on carrying is a tarp which will double as a bike cover when leaving bikes somewhere we can't see, then using it as our 'weather shield' when camping.

So, my idea is to create a 'lean to' using the bikes/trees to keep the weather out. But, if there's bugs etc, it would be great to be able to cocoon yourself in a mossie net. On fine nights, simply sleep in the net!

The search continues....

Well, we made a decision.

Got a 'double' mossie net which fits in your hand (got it for $40). 150 grams.

SEA TO Summit Nano Double Permethrin Mosquito Pyramid NET | eBay

Then, got a lightweight, quiet, waterproof groundsheet too. Cost about $50 delivered. Made of this stuff: Dupont Tyvek Soft Structure Cloth Type 14 1443R | eBay

And, we'll carry our cheap tarp/bike cover. Hopefully our mossie net and ground sheet will come in under a kilo.
