Gaerne Balanced Oiled Boots ..Initial report
Hi folks,
I've just picked up my new Gaerne boots and wanted to leave my comments....
I wanted a quality boot which offered protection, where waterproof, you could walk in and look decent under a pair of jeans..The main reason I didn't go for hiking boots was the laces and the fact normally, they are low and don't offer too much shin protection.
So after much searching I came across the Gaerne Balanced Oiled brown / black..
Finding a pair wasn't so easy, I ordered them through a dealer in Belgium and waited 6 / 8 weeks for them to arrive, anyway... on first impressions, I'm very happy. They are comfortable enough the first day I could wear them for several hours... the quality of leather is excellent, thick but still supple and very well stitched together, I can even walk in them... its marked they are waterproof (yet to test) and I think have a 2 year manufactures guarantee....
Finally they look very decent (that's very important for the wife)
The only possible downsides are: There isn't protection on the toe for changing gear, its already a little scrubbed, I think they will suffer here. The buckles are metal with plastic adjustable straps, I hope these prove to be strong and the price €290 (I guess the going price for decent boots).
Next week I'm off to Morocco and will report back with a few miles under my belt and sand in my boots....
Salut matt
