two ideas
1 belstaff make knee pads
2 cheaper method---cut a block of medium hard foam ie 7 x 9 inches.
sew a pocket inside your knee area and fit the pad of choice----they also keep your knees warm an cold riding days.

I use AXO knee pads. They provide very good protection and fit nicely into MX boots, however the foam/rubber padding tends to make you sweat a lot. I have only used them on long trips when the weather is cold (they do help keep you warm too) but would imagine that pads that have the cushioning with fabric over it would be more comfortable. Most skateboarding knee pads are like this and look like they would be much more comfortable.

I use Fox Pivot knee armor underneath cordura trousers. They have a hard plastic vented exterior with padding underneath. The internal padding layout is designed to allow some airflow through the vents. The top of the armor is hinged, ensuring your knee is fully protected when your leg is bent and the padded hinge-mount protects part of each side of the knee. I live near the equator in Africa they seem to offer very good protection without being too suffocating in hot weather. I’m a firm believer in knee protection having once cracked a kneecap while bicycling (curb) and recently witnessed a pillion passenger hit his knee on the edge of an opening car door.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
