I have always found that my non-vented riding jacket is to hot.
On my trip to South America and back , I used my regular riding jacket with a light waterproof shell for over top.
I would have been better off with a mesh riding jacket and a waterproof shell.
You can always wear all your clothes underneath to stay warm, and if you are still too cold then you have to question your route...or buy more clothes.
I ended up riding through lots of South America without my jacket on
because it was to hot.
A Heated vest would be a good alternative because they are thin and can be worn under your regular jacket, but they are a bit of a hassle plugging in, getting on and off the bike.
