Best border crossings in CA

For someone that is not going thru Belize, which crossing in N, G, H, CR and Panama would you recommend for the least hassle. Thanks

EL Florido near the Copan ruins for Guat-Hond. Very small crossing, used to dealing with tourists. Took maybe and hour, cost less than $20. 2003 info.

One i cannot recommend would be Penas Blancas (Nic/CR.Why do everything in one office when you can be messed around in 3 as with this place.Do not know what the alternatives are like.
The CR /Panama crossing on the East coast was a bit hairy on a fully loaded GS 1100.There are 2 railroad bridges with dodgy timber and not much to stop you falling into the water. It's worth it though if you want to visit the Bocas del Toro islands.

Unhappy trying to cross Honduras

hey gand, well, we seem to be stuck in el salvador. We are trying to get across Honduras and Nicaragua to get to Costa rica, but have been told that the borders are closed, and if they open, it could be "slightly dangerous" anyone crossed lately , or is anyone plannig to cross in the next few days?
happy travels all
dan

friends in San Salvador

Harleydan and others in San Salvador...., I have a friend in San Salvador who has expressed interest in "helping" foreign motorcyclists "stranded" in San Salvador due to the Honduras Coup. He speaks spanish, and will be a great resource if really needed, please honor the "stranded" aspect of his invitation.

P M direct to me for contact name and e-mail. See update on Honduras thread for latest international news.

I crossed at El Ceibo Chiapas, Mexico/ El Naranjo Peten, Guatemala (near Pelenque) in mid April 09 with no hassles. It's a tiny crossing. The road has only been in for 6 months or less (prior it was a 2 hr river journey). There is no Customs on the Guatemala side. The immigration guy said their is one in Flores but if we since we didn't plan on going their we didn't need to register the bike.

Also, as lonerider said. Mesilla for another Mex-Guate crossing is good.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
