Best way to plan wedding in Puerto Rico?
My fiance and I would like to get married in Puerto Rico. Here's the catch, this destination wedding is just going to be for the two of us. We don't want to invite anyone else or have the traditional reception afterwards. I have been researching wedding packages for Puerto Rico, but they all seem to assume that destination weddings include lots of family and friends. I have never really traveled outside of the east coast of the U.S., so all of this is becoming very overwhelming. I would really appreciate any inside advice!
great speakers

It's not looking good you've ended up in the sahara already
Just joking, can't really help but try in Central America section for a more usefull answer.
Don't post in the HU Bar for gad sake
Congrats on the wedding

I think Silver G has pointed to one way forward.
A wedding organisation webpage is likely to be more useful to you than the HUBB, with or without the Sahara desert aspects to be taken into consideration.
Since there are just the two of you for this venture, just go and do it, anywhere?? In the good old days of England, couples used to elope across the border into Scotland and get married immediately, just over the border, in a place called Gretna Green - now that is old fashioned but it would be romantic don't you think.

Good advice there from Walkabout though Gretna Green is an out of town shopping hell center now.
I would have thought you just need to find out how to get and qualify for a marriage license and you should be good to say "I Do". I would see what the big organisers say about the local laws then go independently.

That's not a destination wedding. You are eloping. The reason that it's an elopement vs. a destination wedding is because it's just the two of you. Destination weddings are considered to be in very bad taste because of the undue burden they place on others. Elopements don't have the same issues because you are not asking others to have the burdens of travel and lodging, schedule conflicts, etc.
You should be able to make the arrangements through an experienced travel agent near where you live, or you can do the research and make the arrangements yourselves. Be sure to see if there is a blood test or waiting period required for the marriage license there. some of the resorts should have elopement packages available and they should be able to advise you. Make sure that you tell them you DON'T want a destination wedding ........you want an elopement. If you say destination wedding they will misunderstand it to mean a large group of travelers.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
