Cancelling a MX TVIP when you have left MX and returned

So, found out after the fact that when you leave MX you are suppose to leave with the bike and cancel the TVIP.

This fall we rode to Puerto Vallarta and stored the bikes and are returning in March 2017 for another 2 week ride (TVIPs expire April 05/17).

So at the end of the ride we'll be going to the Bangercito to cancel our TVIP but our passports will show a stamp (with a car symbol) on October 07/16 when we rode into MX from the US and then they will show another stamp from March 04/17 (with a plane symbol) when we return this March to continue the ride.

I understand the Bangercito person won't ask for our Tourist Card/FMM which is good as it will be the new one we got on the plane so they won't see that the number from our original FMM does not match that on the TVIP (we handed our FMM in at the airport when we flew home in October), but I understand they will look at our passport. When they do they will see our March 04/17 stamp with the plane symbol so they will know we left MX and then returned by plane, not by motorcycle.

Is this a show stopper? Will they still cancel/refund our TVIP?

Our plan is to store the bikes in Tapachula and then get another TVIP when we return in early 2018.

But I need to know if this is going to work otherwise we may be looking at riding back to the US and storing the bikes in AZ instead and using that as a base which is not our preferred location, we'd rather be based out of MX, (but the Bangercito person at the MX/US border would still see that we had left the country without our bikes because of the recent stamp in our passport), URG!!!

Thanks!

As long as you cancel your TVIP before it expires you are fine.

Hi VicMitch.

I agree, BUT; I'm not sure if they will even cancel our TVIP if they see the recent airline MX stamp in our passports which will tell them we left the country without our vehicles and then flew back to ride.

Not to mention our Tourist Card numbers won't match those on our TVIP as we turned our original Tourist Card/FMM in when we flew home in October (but I understand the Bangercito folks won't asked to see our FMM as that's controlled by the Aduana folks).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
