Crossed USA to Mexico

Hi!

I want crossed(spent) in Mexico with my bike bought second-hand in the USA. I am told that it is to complicate. You know what papers are necessary. I am argentinian.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Carlos.

Heya Carlos

We are Kiwis from New Zealand and bought a second-hand bike in the USA.

You will need original title, insurance and registration to obtain a TVIP for Mexico.

You pay your $49 US in fees plus $400 US in a bond which you get back if you are a good boy.

Do you the above?, if so no drama and start enjoying Mexico.

Hola pulponegro,
It will be easy if you keep the following points in mind.
Your motorcycle should have all the ownership and registration documents made out under YOUR NAME
- and that name must be printed out exactly the same as it appears in your passport and drivers lecense and credit cards

When entering Mexico you have the option of saying that you are merely crossing the country( transit only) or if you are going for a meandering tourist romp .
I suggest that you say you are on a TOURIST visit , this will give you a 180 day tourist card , about $27US and lots of time to roam and sightsee.
If you tell them that you are just crossing through on your way to Argentina they will class you as TRANSITO and you will be given a very short duration tourist card, the fee for which may be forgiven , but it limits your travel and enjoyment to the shortest route to the south border..
You will have to pay a security deposit for the bike , the amount is a Maximum of $400US for the newest year range, and that will be charged to your credit at the same time you pay for the Temporary Vehicle Import Permit and Tourist Card,
The security deposit will be returned to your credit card account at the time when you cancel your TVIP when you leave Mexico.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
