Crossing Mexico from Guatemala

Hi there! I am planning a trip with my son starting in Guatemala and ending up in Canada, through Mexico and USA. I am a little concerned about riding Mexico and the USA border. Any comments as well as recommendations will be welcome. Thanks!

From Guatemala to the USA you have several options for border crossings into Mexico. The least hectic border crossing into Mexico would be El Ceibo up in the Peten, Very calm crossing, open from 6am to around 8pm. Then ride to Tenosique and whatever route you wish .
Getting the Mexican TVIP for a bike or car may still be difficult at El Ceibo on any Monday when the Banjercito man haas his day off. , but other days it should be easy.
The Crossing of the Panamerican Highway at La Mesilla to Cd Cuauhtemoc is a bit of a mad house, very crowded street scene at the GT border exit.Open from 6 am to 9pm . The Mexican customs post for that border is actually 4km north at the bottom of the mountain in Cd Cuauhtemoc town.
Down on the coastal strip the crossing to Cacahoatan northeast of Tapachula is also fairly tranquil now that most heavy truck traffic gets directed to the more southern crossing at Tecun Uman. You can get your Mexican bike papers at the new roadside terminal o Mex 200 near Huixtla .about 40km into Mexico

For entry to the USA you have loads of good options, really any crossing from Mexico to the US is acceptable and easy enough.... as long as you have all your paperwork and visas in order.US customs are real sticklers for those kinds of things
Enjoy your planning and your trip

What specific questions/worries do you have?

And check out www.BorderHelper.com for border crossing reviews - many of them are from the infamous Sjoerd himself!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
