It's not impossible, just very nearly so!
Helge Pedersson (spelling?) winched his bike through years ago, but I'm not sure if anyone else has done. Apart from the physical problems, it's an extremely dangerous area.
I crossed from Panama to Bogota 2 weeks ago, by air (Girag), cost $550 for bike. Other alternative is boat from Colon to Cartagena, I have a guy's email if you need it. Takes about 5 days via. San Blas islands.

Hi
There is no proper route through the Darien Gap the road ends in the village of Yaviza (Panama) this is as far as you can go now, even this route has many police stops telling you that you are not aloud to try and pass in to colombia If you realy wanted to ride through the gap you should be prepared for a trip of a couple of months and be up to the physical chalenge of dragging a bike through 70 miles of thick impenetrable jungle
You can get a boat from Colon to Cartagena for about $500 and for about the same price you can fly from Panama city to Bogota.
Hope this helps Skip

Darian gap
There lots of info on this forum on the darian gap. Best way for me was getting a lift from a Sialboat between Colon and Cartagena. We paid 150 us each for two bikes. Regular boats make this trip. Be carefull in Colon as it lives up to its bad reputation. Make inquiries at both marina's at Panama City and Colon.
The crossing takes two days longer if you stop at a group of beautifull islands half way but this depands on the boat off course.
On my website I have a few foto's of our crossing. http://www.trans-amerika.nl/foto/foto28.htm Nevermind checking the travelllog as it is all in Dutch
Good luck

Actually if one checks this travel log site (just chop off everything after the .nl ) it will give you the option of reading it in Dutch or in English. Somebody gave you a surprise gift Mills .

Do a search on the site for "Darien" - no accent, no quotes - and you'll be amazed at all the info already here on it. Note there's two seach boxes - one for the HUBB, one for main site. Up and right for both...
Also check the Planning, Shipping section - menu on the left.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
