How to sell a Mexican motorcycle in Costa Rica or Panama
Hi guys,
I bought a Mexican motorcycle Yamaha Fazer 150 which has plates under my name and am currently in Nicaragua, going down to Costa Rica or Panama and I would love to get some informations about how to sell it there ?!
From what I read, I saw that both have crazy import taxes around 50% of the value of the motorcycle ??
I also saw some stuff about making a poder with a notary, to give rights to somebody else, but would this option work if I make a poder for the motorcycle to a traveller planning to go back to Mexico with it, will he be able to switch the papers under his name then ?
If anyone can help on the different processes, it would be highly appreciated
I guess it will be for sale within the next 2/3 months !
Thanks a lot,
Jordan

Did you manage?
Hi Jordan,
How did this go? I am very curious. Were you able to sell the bike? And how?
Also can you share your process of buying the motorcycle in Mexico?

FWIW, the rules are applied differently in the states in regards to purchase and registration of vehicles. If you are on a tourist visa, then the fallback plan is to purchase and register the moto in a friend's name, a Mexican National. Beware of a used moto purchase until you have verfied with the state that the factura is valid and the tenencia is paid to date with no outstanding traffic violations. I suggest a moto purchase from an expat instead of from the general public. Most used moto offers are on Facebook marketplace nowadays. Buena suerte.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
